october.2009.photo

photo with vintage 1980s cannon 32mm camera. islesford, maine. study of line, color, form.

nearly dusk, late october. we headed out wrapped in fleece and wool against the mild autumn chill. we started on pavement, then trekked through birch and maple, through moss and twigs and harder ground. the isolated beach was bathed in my favorite kind of evening light.

inexplicable this time of year is the light. early morning and late afternoon provide rays of filtered, weakend sunlight. watered down...

we spotted the boathouse in the distance, its angled architecture contrasting beautifully with the beach's natural curves. a steady noise patterned the air. metal hitting metal, again and again.

we found henry huddled under the boat he was working on. turning toward the falling sun, we looked out at what is often seen as cliché, common, or sometimes missed completely.

henry turned toward us before returning to his tinkering.

"well, it's not so bad, is it?"
